I arrive before your guests do. That hour matters more than people expect — it is when the room is still perfect, the table settings are untouched, the flowers are fresh and the light through the windows is at its best. Those detail frames are what make a gallery feel complete, and they are impossible to recreate once forty people have walked through. From there I move with the evening: arrivals and greetings, the drinks that loosen everyone up, the speeches, the cake, the first dance, the late candid moments when the formal part is over and people are simply enjoying themselves.

Every event booking includes unlimited photographs — no cap, no per-guest charge, no curation fee. Each delivered frame gets cinematic retouching, the same treatment as my wedding galleries. Drone aerial coverage is included wherever flying is permitted, and for a beach dinner or a resort lawn it usually produces the single image the client uses everywhere afterwards. Your private gallery arrives within 3 working days, and transport anywhere in Mauritius is included — north coast to south, and out to Île aux Cerfs.

If you need something faster, say so when booking. For corporate and hospitality clients I can hand over a small set of edited highlights before I leave the venue — enough for a social post the same night or a press release the next morning. Celebrating in Mauritius While on Holiday

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, vow renewals, engagement parties, family reunions where three generations finally occupy the same beach — these are the celebrations people fly to Mauritius for, and they are over in one evening. The reason to photograph them properly is simple: the person hosting never gets to enjoy their own party if they are also the one documenting it, and phone photos of a candlelit dinner are uniformly disappointing.

Most private events I cover run two to four hours, starting in the last of the daylight and continuing after dark. That arc is deliberate. We get the group portraits and the details while there is still golden light — everyone looks their best, and nobody has to stop the party later to line up. Then, as the sun goes and the fairy lights come on, the coverage shifts to candid: conversations, dancing, the speeches, the moment someone's mother cries. You end up with both halves of the evening.

Practical things worth knowing. Most resorts are happy to host a private celebration and will have a preferred spot — a beach deck, a lawn, a private dining terrace — and I have photographed at every major property on the island, so I usually know the venue before I arrive. Sunset in Mauritius runs from about 17:30 in June to 18:55 in December; if the time of your dinner is flexible, moving it thirty minutes earlier is often the difference between a warm golden gallery and a dark one. And if it rains, we adapt — Mauritian weather is localised and fast-moving, and covered terraces photograph beautifully.

Resort Functions, Launches & Corporate Programmes

Hospitality and tourism clients need something different from a private host, and it is worth being explicit about it. You are not commissioning memories — you are commissioning assets. That means usable frames in a predictable aspect ratio, faces that are recognisable and flattering, brand details in shot, a clean group photograph that the marketing team can actually crop, and delivery on a schedule that matches a campaign rather than a holiday.

I cover resort functions and supplier evenings, product and property launches, gala and award dinners, conference sessions, incentive-group programmes, and the staff and property images that get used alongside them. Multi-day programmes are quoted as a custom package built from half-day and full-day blocks, so you pay for the coverage each part of the run sheet needs rather than a flat day rate that does not fit.

Two things I bring that a visiting photographer cannot. First, I know the venues: I have written detailed location notes on 34 Mauritian properties, which means I know where the light falls at your venue at six o'clock and where the group shot works when the lawn is full. Second, I am on the island permanently — for a schedule change, a weather call or a second date, I am half an hour away, not a flight away. The Craft

Events Happen After Dark — That's the Hard Part

Almost every event in Mauritius runs into the evening, and low light is where the difference between photographers becomes obvious. The lazy solution is a flash pointed straight at the room: everything is lit, nothing has any atmosphere, and the photographs look like a school hall. The candlelit dinner you spent months planning ends up looking like it happened under a strip light.

I work with discreet off-camera lighting instead, shaped and bounced so that the room keeps the mood it was designed to have. Fairy lights stay warm. Candles still read as candles. Faces are clean and properly exposed, but the background does not fall into black. On a beach after sunset — one of the most common and most difficult event settings on this island — that approach is the whole game, because there is nothing to bounce off and the sky is doing something beautiful for about twenty minutes that most cameras will simply miss.

It also means I am unobtrusive. No constant popping flash in people's faces, no interrupting a speech to reposition. Guests generally forget I am there, which is precisely why the candid frames work.

From First Message to Final Gallery

1 · Tell me the evening. One WhatsApp message with the date, the venue and roughly how many hours you need. If it is a corporate programme, send the run sheet. I reply with availability and an itemised quote, usually within hours.

2 · We plan the light. I will tell you what time sunset falls on your date and whether shifting the schedule slightly would improve the photographs. If I do not already know your venue, I check it. For drone coverage I confirm the permit position in advance rather than turning up hopeful.

3 · The evening itself. I arrive ahead of guests for the details and setup, then work through the event unobtrusively. Group shots are done quickly and early while the light is good, so nobody has to stop the party later.

4 · Delivery. Full retouched gallery within 3 working days via a private online link, with unlimited downloads. Same-night highlights if you asked for them. Commercial licensing arranged separately for business clients.

Event Photography in Mauritius — FAQ

How much does an event photographer cost in Mauritius?

From €160 for the first hour and €100 per additional hour. A half-day (4 hours) is €480 and a full day (6–8 hours) is €800. Every booking includes unlimited photographs, cinematic retouching, drone where permitted, island transfers and 3-working-day delivery. No per-guest charge, no cap on images.

Can you photograph a birthday or anniversary while we're on holiday?

+— it is one of the most common bookings I take. I arrive before guests to photograph the setup and details, cover arrivals, speeches, cake and dancing, and deliver the full gallery within three working days, usually before you fly home.

Do you work with hotels and resorts on their own events?

Regularly — resort functions, supplier evenings, launches, gala dinners, award nights and incentive programmes. Hospitality clients usually need two deliverables: fast social-ready images the same evening, and a full retouched gallery for press and marketing. Both are included.

How quickly do we get the photos?

Full retouched gallery within 3 working days. For corporate clients needing something the same night, I can hand over a small set of edited highlights before leaving the venue — no extra cost, it just needs planning in advance.

Do you photograph events after dark?

Yes, and it is where experience shows. I use discreet off-camera lighting that keeps the atmosphere of the room rather than flattening it with direct flash — candlelit dinners, beach fire pits, dancefloors and speeches all photograph cleanly. My hours run to 23:30, seven days a week.

Is drone coverage available for events?

Yes, where airspace permits, and included rather than charged extra. An aerial frame of a beach dinner or a resort lawn set for a gala is often the image used everywhere afterwards. I will tell you honestly in advance if a venue or time slot will not allow flying.

How far in advance should we book?

A week or two is usually enough for a private celebration, and a few days' notice is often possible out of peak season. For corporate programmes, resort functions and anything in December–January or July–August, book as early as you can — I take a limited number of events per month.

Do you travel anywhere in Mauritius?

Anywhere on the island, transport included. Based in Flic en Flac, working from Grand Baie and Pereybere in the north to Bel Ombre and Le Morne in the south, Belle Mare and Palmar in the east, and out to Île aux Cerfs. Rodrigues assignments are quoted per trip.

What languages do you speak with guests?

English, French, Mauritian Creole, Hindi, Urdu and Arabic. At an international event that matters — directing a group shot or coordinating with resort staff in their own language keeps the evening moving and produces better photographs.
