A family session with me looks nothing like a studio appointment. We meet on the beach in the first hour after sunrise or the last hour before sunset, when the light is soft and the sand is cool underfoot. The kids run, dig, splash in the shallows; the grown-ups relax; and I move around the edges photographing your family being exactly itself. We weave in a handful of gently arranged group frames — the full family, each generation, the grandparents with the grandchildren — but the heart of the gallery is always candid.

Every family package includes unlimited photographs — I never cap the number of images you receive, whatever the size of your group. Each delivered photo gets professional cinematic retouching, the same editorial treatment as my wedding galleries. Drone aerial coverage is included wherever flying is permitted — a family walking a white-sand beach seen from above is a frame everyone wants on the wall. Your private gallery arrives within 3 working days — almost always before you fly home — and transport across Mauritius is included, whether we shoot at your resort's beach or at a lagoon ten minutes away.

Most families book their session early in the holiday. That way the shoot becomes part of the trip rather than an errand at the end of it, the gallery lands while you are still on the island, and there is a built-in backup date if the weather has other ideas.

Here is the truth every parent knows: children do not perform on command, and the harder you push, the faster the smiles disappear. So I don't push. My family sessions are designed around short attention spans — we work in bursts of a few minutes, then break for sandcastles, a splash in the lagoon, a snack. While the "break" happens, I keep shooting, because that is where the real photographs live: a toddler shrieking at a wave, siblings conspiring over a bucket, dad airborne with a five-year-old over the shallows.

Parents are often amazed that the child who refused to look at a camera for the entire holiday fills half the final gallery laughing. The trick is simple — there was never a moment when anyone said "say cheese." I give light, playful direction to the adults, set up little games for the kids, and let the session feel like an hour at the beach that happened to be beautifully photographed. If someone needs a cuddle or a time-out, we take it. The schedule bends around your family, never the other way round.

For the group portraits, I keep it quick: everyone arranged in two minutes, three or four frames, done — before the youngest member has time to object. Three-generation portraits get the same treatment. The result is a gallery where even the "formal" photos look relaxed, because they were.

Safe, Shallow Lagoons — and the Right Hour of Light

Mauritius is ringed by a coral reef, which means much of the coastline is calm, shallow lagoon rather than open ocean — perfect conditions for photographing young children in the water. Blue Bay in the south-east is my first recommendation for families with little ones: the marine-park lagoon is glassy, waist-deep at most near the shore, and impossibly turquoise. In the north, Mon Choisy offers a long, gently shelving beach with casuarina trees for shade between shots, and Trou aux Biches delivers the classic postcard frame with water calm enough for toddlers.

Timing matters as much as the beach. I schedule family sessions in the first hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset — golden hour. The light is soft and flattering, the heat is gentle on small children, and the beaches are at their quietest, so your photographs feel like you had the island to yourselves. Sunrise sessions are a secret weapon for families with toddlers: little ones are at their brightest early in the day, and you are back at the resort in time for breakfast.

If you would rather not travel at all, we shoot at your resort — every hotel beach on the island works beautifully, and I know the best corners of each property. Many families combine both: twenty minutes in the resort gardens, then the beach for the golden-hour finale.
