Photographs hold the moment. Film holds the sound of it — the voice cracking in the speech, the sea behind the vows, the shriek when she realises what is happening. Bilaal Sadeer is a photographer and the founder of Capture Cinematography Ltd, which means photography and film in Mauritius come from one team, on one schedule, working to one plan. Weddings and proposals, honeymoon reels, resort and hotel promotional film, and drone cinematography over the lagoon.

Films Shot in Mauritius

A proposal on the sand, a couple session on an offshore islet, and beach weddings at Flic en Flac. More on the YouTube channel.

Will You? — A Surprise Proposal

The walk down to the beach, the moment itself, and the reaction. Filmed discreetly from a distance so she never saw it coming.

Couple Session — Îlot Gabriel

The islet off the northern tip of Mauritius: turquoise shallows, white sand and open ocean light, reachable only by boat.

Beach Wedding — Flic en Flac

A west-coast sunset ceremony and the golden-hour portraits that followed, on the beach where I am based.

Indian-Style Wedding — Flic en Flac

Ritual, colour and movement. Knowing the order of the ceremony is what lets a camera be in position before each moment, not after it.

Photo and Film From One Team

Most couples marrying in Mauritius book a photographer and a videographer separately, and most of them do not realise what that costs them until the day. Two crews who have never worked together will end up in each other's frames. Both will want the couple for portraits at golden hour, and there is only one golden hour. Both will ask you to repeat the confetti, the first look, the ring exchange. The day slows down, and the couple spends it being directed by committee.

When photography and film come from the same team, there is one plan and one schedule. I know where the second camera is because I put it there. The film crew is not competing for the light, because it is the same operation. Practically, that usually means a shorter, calmer day and better results in both media — and it is why photo-plus-film is now how most of my wedding clients book.

It also means one point of contact, one quote and one invoice, through Capture Cinematography Ltd. If you already have a photographer you love, that is completely fine and I will happily film alongside them — but if you are choosing both from scratch, choosing them together is the better decision.

What I Film in Mauritius

Wedding films. A short highlight film of three to five minutes — the one you will actually send to people — plus a longer edit that keeps the ceremony and the speeches in full. Vertical social cuts can be delivered alongside for Instagram and TikTok. Destination weddings, beach ceremonies, resort celebrations and multi-day Indian and Muslim ceremonies.

Proposal films. Arguably where film beats photography outright, because the reaction has sound. Filmed from a distance with a long lens so the surprise survives, then celebration coverage immediately afterwards. See proposal photography for how the surprise is set up.

Honeymoon and couple reels. Short, cinematic, made for sharing — the kind of thirty-to-ninety-second film that looks like a travel campaign and takes an hour of your holiday to shoot. Pairs naturally with a honeymoon session or a couple photoshoot.

Hotel and resort promotional film. Property films, rooms and facilities, restaurant and spa sequences, aerials over the grounds and lagoon, and social-format cutdowns for the hotel's own channels. See hotel and resort work.

Event and corporate film. Conferences, launches, gala dinners and incentive programmes — filmed alongside event photography so one booking covers both.

Drone cinematography. Available as part of any of the above, or as a standalone commission.

Drone Cinematography Over the Lagoon

Aerial footage earns its place in a Mauritius film more than almost anywhere else. The island is ringed by a coral reef, which from a hundred metres up reads as a hard line between turquoise shallow lagoon and deep ocean blue — an image that simply cannot be captured from the ground, and one that instantly tells a viewer where they are. A drone shot pulling back from two people on an empty beach to reveal that reef is, more often than not, the shot people remember from the whole film.

Practically: flying is permitted across most beaches and resort grounds in Mauritius, . I confirm the position at your specific venue and time slot in advance rather than turning up and hoping — some resorts have their own restrictions, and a few locations near the airport or protected areas are genuinely off limits. If your venue will not allow it, you will hear that from me at the quoting stage.

Locations that reward aerial work particularly well: Le Morne, where the mountain drops straight into the lagoon and the underwater waterfall illusion is visible from height; ÃŽlot Gabriel and the northern islets; Belle Mare's long east-coast sandbar at sunrise; and Blue Bay's marine park, where the reef structure is visible straight through the water.

Film Pricing in Mauritius

Quoted Per Project

Unlike a photo session, the cost of a film is driven mainly by the edit rather than the hours on location — so a flat hourly rate would misprice it in both directions. Every film is quoted individually against four things:

  • How much coverage you need on the day
  • Whether you want a highlight film, a full-length record, or both
  • Whether drone cinematography is included
  • How quickly you need the finished edit

Booking photography and film together is materially cheaper than commissioning them separately, because it is one team on one schedule. Photography rates are published openly on the pricing page — send your date and I will quote the film against it.

From First Message to Finished Film

1 · Tell me what you want to remember. One WhatsApp message with your date, the location and whether you want photography too. For a resort or corporate film, tell me where it will be published — a property film for a website and a thirty-second vertical cut for Instagram are different jobs.

2 · The quote and the plan. An itemised quote, usually within hours, covering coverage, deliverables, drone and edit timeline. If drone is part of it, the permit position at your venue is confirmed now rather than later.

3 · The shoot. If photography is booked too, it is one team and one schedule — no competing crews, no repeating moments for a second camera.

4 · The edit. Delivered digitally to the agreed timeline. Photographs still arrive within 3 working days; the film follows, because a good edit cannot be rushed and should not be.

Bilaal Sadeer — Capture Cinematography Ltd

I have worked in photography, design and moving image in Mauritius for more than fifteen years, and I founded Capture Cinematography Ltd to put film and stills under one roof. I am Mauritian, based in Flic en Flac, and I work in English, French, Creole, Hindi, Urdu and Arabic.

The island is the other half of the job. Knowing that the light at Le Morne goes flat an hour before it does on the east coast, that Belle Mare's sandbar only appears at certain tides, that a particular resort will not permit a drone over its beach after ten in the morning — none of that is on a location scouting website, and all of it is the difference between a film that works and a day spent improvising. Videography in Mauritius — FAQ

Do you offer photography and video together?

Yes, and it is the most common way clients book. One team, one schedule, one invoice — which on a wedding day means no competing crews, no duplicated requests to the couple, and no fight over golden hour.

How much does a videographer cost in Mauritius?

Quoted per project rather than hourly, because the edit is usually a bigger job than the filming. Cost depends on coverage length, whether you want a highlight film or a full record, drone, and how fast you need the edit. Send your date on WhatsApp for an itemised quote, usually within hours.

Is drone footage included?

Available wherever airspace permits, which in Mauritius covers most beaches and resort grounds. Aerials do more work in a film than in stills — they establish the place. +are managed, and the position at your venue is confirmed before booking, not on the day.

How long is a wedding film and when do we get it?

Most couples want a 3–5 minute highlight film plus a longer edit with the ceremony and speeches in full, and often vertical social cuts too. Photographs arrive in 3 working days; the film takes longer because of the edit, and the timeline is agreed at booking.

Do you film hotel and resort promotional video?

+— property films, rooms and facilities, restaurant and spa sequences, aerials, and social cutdowns. I have location notes on 34 Mauritian properties and delivered a commissioned tourism assignment on Rodrigues for Hôtel Flamboyant.

Can you film a proposal without the other person knowing?

+— it is a speciality, and film often beats photography here because the reaction has sound. Filmed discreetly from a distance with a long lens, then celebration coverage immediately afterwards.

What languages do you work in?

English, French, Mauritian Creole, Hindi, Urdu and Arabic. For film this matters more than for stills — directing a scene or interviewing someone on camera goes better in their own language.

Do you travel to Rodrigues?

Yes, quoted per trip and all-inclusive of flights, accommodation and island transport. See the Rodrigues page. Travel anywhere on the main island is included in the quote.

Photographs Hold the Moment. Film Holds the Sound of It.

Tell me your date and what you want to remember. An itemised quote usually comes back within hours.
