Mauritius is a significantly better destination for honeymoon photography — and it is not particularly close. The visual variety is the reason. In a single day, you can photograph a couple at sunrise on the mirror-calm east coast lagoon, in the volcanic landscape of Chamarel at midday, on a dramatic windswept south coast beach in the afternoon, and at a golden-hour Le Morne sunset that turns the water copper and the cliff face amber. Every location looks completely different. Your gallery tells a story of a place, not just a beach.
Mauritius is also largely drone-friendly outside of restricted zones — which means aerial couple portraits over the lagoon, the kind of image that most couples see on Pinterest and assume requires a helicopter budget. In Mauritius, it is standard.
The UNESCO heritage backdrop of Le Morne, the symmetry of the colonial sugar estates, the colour of the Creole fishing villages — there are visual stories here that no overwater bungalow can compete with.
Maldives for photography

Mauritius — romantic and alive
Mauritius is romantic, but it is romantic in the way that a great city break with your partner is romantic: the romance comes from shared experiences, discoveries and moments, not from pure seclusion. You will have the private beach villa and the couple's spa package — but you will also have the memory of finding a hidden Creole restaurant where the owner brought out rum punch and told you the island's history.
